Yet Another Alarmist Headline, This Time From The DailyMail (UK)

I really hate reading alarmist articles like “Terrorists could use DRONES to down planes, warns anti-terror expert,” from the DailyMail in the UK. I’m not sure what the goal is with articles like these. Is the author trying to scare the public? At the very best that’s all that is done, at the very worst, this article becomes inspirational. I also wonder if the statement “near misses happening on a weekly basis” is wholly accurate. We know, at least according to the AMA, that number of near misses in US has been grossly misdocumented.

Terrorists may use drones to fly into the engines of passenger jets and take them down, a leading expert claimed.

Defence specialist Colin Smith said drones already pose the biggest threat to air passengers, with near misses happening on a weekly basis.

He also warned that terrorist groups may also want to fly their banners at high-profile events and score a propaganda coup with the unmanned machines.

Please, please, I know headlines like these can sell papers, but it hurts the entire drone industry.
