Hard Iron Magnetic Distortion

  1. Distortions that arise from magnets or magnetized metals on the airframe that affect the compass. These distortions remain in the same location relative to the compass for all heading orientations. These distortions can be mostly compensated for by adding constant offsets to the values returned from the 3d magnetometer.
