What is in-person Part 107 test preparation?
In-person Part 107 test preparation is live ground instruction designed to help first-time applicants understand the aeronautical knowledge required for the FAA’s Unmanned Aircraft General–Small, or UAG, test. Unlike the official exam, this training takes place at an agreed location convenient for you.
You can ask questions, work through charts and scenarios, and spend more time on the subjects you find difficult. If you also need practical flight coaching, explore our in-person drone training at your location.

The FAA pathway
From preparation to a Remote Pilot Certificate
For a first-time applicant, the FAA currently describes the following basic process.

Create an IACRA profile
Obtain an FAA Tracking Number before registering for the knowledge test.

Schedule the UAG exam
Choose an appointment at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center.

Pass the knowledge test
Complete the official Unmanned Aircraft General–Small exam at the testing center.
04
Apply through IACRA
Complete FAA Form 8710-13 and submit the certificate application electronically.
05
Complete FAA processing
Follow the FAA’s instructions as the application and security vetting are processed.
Part 61 pilots and existing Remote Pilot Certificate holders may follow a different FAA training path. Review the FAA’s current certification instructions before booking initial-test preparation.

What is in-person Part 107 test preparation?
It is live, instructor-led ground training designed to help first-time applicants understand the knowledge areas covered by the FAA’s UAG test. Drone Universities brings the instruction to an agreed location; the official test is taken separately.
Does Drone Universities administer the official Part 107 test?
No. Drone Universities provides independent preparation. The official Unmanned Aircraft General–Small knowledge test must be taken at an FAA-approved Knowledge Testing Center.
Does the instructor really come to my location?
Yes. Preparation can be arranged at an agreed workplace, agency facility, training room, home, or another suitable location in the United States, subject to scheduling and venue requirements.
What subjects are covered on the UAG knowledge test?
FAA-published areas include Part 107 regulations, airspace and restrictions, weather, loading and performance, emergency procedures, crew resource management, radio procedures, aeronautical decision-making, airport operations, maintenance, preflight inspection, and night operations.
How many questions are on the Part 107 test?
The current FAA testing matrix lists 60 questions, two hours allowed, and a passing score of 70%. Testing details can change, so confirm the current matrix before scheduling.
Can I take the preparation class as a complete beginner?
Yes. It is designed for first-time applicants. When you contact us, describe your experience and goals so the preparation plan can be discussed.
Do I need a drone or flight experience for test preparation?
The UAG exam is an aeronautical knowledge test, and practical flight experience is not a prerequisite for the preparation class. Ask us separately about hands-on flight instruction if you want both.
Can you prepare an entire employee team?
Yes. In-person preparation can be planned for company, agency, school, or public-sector teams. Each participant still takes the official FAA test and submits an individual certificate application.
Is the process different for Part 61 pilots?
It can be. Eligible Part 61 certificate holders with a current flight review may use the FAA’s online initial-training pathway instead of taking the UAG test. Check the current FAA instructions before booking.
What if I already have a Remote Pilot Certificate?
This page is for initial-test preparation. Existing certificate holders generally maintain aeronautical knowledge recency through the appropriate free FAA online recurrent training within each 24-calendar-month period.
