Professional Drone Instruction for Georgia Operators
Georgia gives drone operators a wide range of work: construction across metro Atlanta, logistics and port activity around Savannah, timber and row-crop land in the southern half of the state, and steady demand for aerial imagery from film, real estate and marketing teams. Each of those jobs brings its own airspace, permission and safety questions.
Drone Universities brings structured, hands-on training to the place you actually fly. Our instructors cover the knowledge required for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and the practical skills that make a new pilot productive: preflight planning, airspace authorization, crew communication and safe operation in Georgia heat, humidity and summer thunderstorms.

Georgia Industries Using Drones
- Construction and development. Progress photography, site mapping and stockpile measurement help builders across metro Atlanta and its growing suburbs document work and keep owners informed.
- Agriculture and forestry. Farms and timber operations use drones for field scouting, crop health imagery and stand assessment, reducing the time needed to cover large acreage on foot.
- Ports, logistics and warehousing. Distribution centers and coastal facilities use aerial imagery for roof inspection, yard planning and security support, within facility rules and airspace limits.
- Film, media and real estate. Georgia has an active film and television production community, and aerial footage is a regular request from productions, agencies and property marketers.
- Public safety and utilities. Fire, emergency management and utility crews use drones for scene overview, storm damage assessment and line inspection.
We adapt flight exercises to these uses, so your team practices the maneuvers and planning it will rely on after the course.
Georgia Airspace and Flying Notes
- Atlanta Class B airspace. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the primary airport of the Atlanta Class B airspace. Part 107 flights in controlled airspace require FAA authorization, usually requested through LAANC or FAA DroneZone, and approved altitudes close to the airport can be very low.
- Other controlled airspace. Savannah International Airport is surrounded by Class C airspace, and Augusta Regional at Bush Field, Columbus Airport and Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon each have Class D airspace. The same authorization requirement applies in these areas.
- Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. Drone operation is prohibited in Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites. The Department of Natural Resources occasionally approves waivers for professional commercial projects. These need prior approval from the Division Director through a commercial film and photography application that includes FAA drone registration and proof of Part 107 certification.
- Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. This National Park Service unit runs through metro Atlanta. Its superintendent’s compendium prohibits launching, landing or operating unmanned aircraft from or on NPS-administered lands and waters within the park, except as approved in writing by the superintendent.
- Temporary flight restrictions. Check FAA notices before every flight. Major sporting events, security operations and emergency response can create short-notice restrictions.
Regulations and local policies change. Confirm current FAA, state and local requirements, and the property owner’s permission, before each flight.
How On-Site Training Works
- Send a request. Use the online request form or call our team to describe your goals, group size and preferred dates.
- Confirm the plan. We match you with a course and instructor and agree on a location suitable for classroom work and, where airspace allows, flight practice.
- Train on site. Your instructor arrives with a structured lesson plan, teaches the knowledge areas and supervises hands-on flying.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Part 107 certificate to fly a drone for work in Georgia?
Yes. Commercial drone flights in Georgia fall under the FAA Small UAS Rule (Part 107). The person flying must hold a Remote Pilot Certificate or fly under the direct supervision of someone who does, and the drone must be registered with the FAA. Our courses prepare you for the Part 107 knowledge test.
Can I fly near downtown Atlanta?
Much of the Atlanta area lies within the Class B airspace around Hartsfield-Jackson. You need FAA authorization before flying in controlled airspace, and some locations near the airport may not be approved. We show you how to read FAA facility maps and request authorization.
Can I fly in a Georgia state park?
Drone operation is prohibited in Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites unless the Department of Natural Resources has approved a waiver for a professional commercial project in advance.
Where does training take place?
At your location. Our instructors travel to offices, job sites, farms and public safety facilities throughout Georgia. If you do not have a suitable site, we will discuss options with you.
