U.S. Navy Officer | UAS Integration Specialist | Commercial Pilot
Jonathan LaQuay is a U.S. Navy officer and seasoned aviator with deep expertise in both manned and unmanned aviation systems. After earning his wings in 2011, he transitioned into the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) community, where he deployed overseas operating the Navy’s MQ-8B Fire Scout.
In 2014, Jonathan played a key leadership role in launching the Navy’s first all-UAS unit, overseeing the integration of MQ-8B aircraft and serving as a liaison between the unit, the air station, and the FAA. His collaborative work helped shape early efforts to safely incorporate UAS operations into both local airspace and the National Airspace System (NAS).
In 2015, Jonathan was granted a Section 333 Exemption by the FAA, enabling him to operate commercial quadcopters—a testament to his early and proactive adoption of civilian UAS technologies. He holds a Commercial Pilot’s License and a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, combining technical insight with operational experience.
With a career rooted in innovation, regulatory leadership, and aerial operations, Jonathan remains at the forefront of UAS advancement both in defense and civilian sectors.
