FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot, Aerial Cinematographer, FPV Pilot & Construction Mapping Specialist
Joshua R. Garling is an FAA Part 107-certified remote pilot, aerial cinematographer, FPV pilot, and construction-mapping specialist. Since 2022, he has operated Boise Aerial Drone Photography & Videography, providing commercial aerial photography, cinematic video, mapping, and construction-progress documentation for corporate clients and large-scale developments.
Joshua specializes in repeatable construction mapping, 2D orthomosaic imaging, aerial progress photography, and milestone documentation. His experience includes recurring drone operations for an approximately 100-acre development valued at roughly $25 billion. Working safely around active construction sites, he coordinates with project managers, construction teams, corporate representatives, photographers, videographers, and production professionals to plan flights, capture consistent data, and deliver high-quality visual assets.
His commercial experience includes projects involving ESI, Micron, INEOS Grenadier, W&W, and Suntec. In addition to construction and mapping work, Joshua produces aerial and ground-based content for commercial and creative productions. He has collaborated with professional film crews from Los Angeles and combines traditional cinematography with dynamic FPV footage to create compelling visual stories. His capabilities include interior and exterior FPV flights, promotional filmmaking, video editing, post-production, and color grading.
Before entering the commercial drone industry, Joshua served in the U.S. Army, where he gained hands-on aviation maintenance experience with AH-64 Apache, UH-60 Black Hawk, and CH-47 Chinook helicopters. His work included aircraft structural and rotor-blade maintenance performed in safety-focused, high-accountability environments. That military aviation background continues to shape his disciplined approach to flight planning, technical problem-solving, and operational safety.
Joshua is also passionate about education and mentoring. He enjoys helping future pilots understand how to operate drones safely, professionally, creatively, and confidently while preparing for opportunities in aviation, mapping, photography, filmmaking, and emerging technology.
